Buchanan County shares Breaks Interstate Park with neighboring Dickenson and Pike counties. The park's spectacular, deep river gorge is the scenic centerpiece of Southwest Virginia and Eastern Kentucky. The park grounds are open year round, with major facilities open from April 1 to Dec. 21. Each season offers special delights for park visitors. Spring brings back the birds, foliage, wild flowers and visitors. Summer offers kids, couples, families and reunion groups picnicking, swimming, hiking, birding, biking, gospel and bluegrass music, live plays, camping, spectacular scenery and a chance to pet the park's tame whitetail deer. Fall brings brilliant colors to the mixed hardwood forest and lures runners, hikers, and nature lovers to the park grounds.
